Emperor FJI's visits to Písek and monuments to them.

In 1868, on the initiative of V. Janota, a 24-member cooperative was formed to establish a peasant school in Písek. Teaching of the 1st year of the peasant school began on December 6, 1870. The school building was completed and consecrated on June 21, 1887.
V září 1888 navštívil tuto instituci císař František Josef I. Na památku této události byl v západní části sadů pamětný jehlan žulový, zhotovený v lomech kolárovických u Vorlíku a 6000 kg těžký. V jehlanu zasazeny jsou dvě desky z černého mramoru.

The front plate bore a gilded inscription: The front plate bore a gilded inscription:

and second: "To the eternal memory of the forty-year glorious reign of His Majesty, the board of trustees founded the agricultural school and the forestry school in Písek in 1888."

This is the establishment of orchards (today's gardens). Furthermore, on the occasion of the emperor's visit, a commemorative plaque was placed in the school building with the inscription:

"In memory of the visit of His Apostolic Majesty Emperor and King Francis Joseph I on September 3, 1888."

The school still provides agricultural vocational education, see www.szepisek.cz for more. Source: http://www.icpisek.cz/docs/cz/ehd_2013.xml

In the area of the non-confessional military cemetery, there is a monument in the shape of a pylon dedicated to the fallen heroes of the 28th Rifle Regiment. It was erected in 1929. It was originally built in 1888 on the occasion of the 40th anniversary of the reign of Francis Joseph I. Until 1918, it stood in the emperor's gardens near today's agricultural school.

There were several monuments in Palacký Gardens. One of them was a monument to an Austrian soldier of the 11th Infantry Regiment in 1916. which was removed forever in 1918 only because the initials of Emperor Francis Joseph I were on its pedestal.
