Correct decision of the municipal council in Kunovice

The town of Kunovice is located in southeastern Moravia, in the southwestern part of the Zlín region, 3 km south of Uherské Hradiště. It lies on the Olšava River near its mouth into the Morava River at an altitude of 185 m. Kunovice is situated in the fertile plain of the Lower Moravian Valley, bounded from the south by the Hlucka Hills, which belong to the Vizovická Highlands, and from the west by the Chřiby Mountains.

An event at the newly built school in Kunovice near Uherské Hradiště was an absolute rarity, created to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the reign of Emperor Francis Joseph I.
In 1886, the construction of a six-class school was started. The construction of the school was won by the builder Josef Schaniak from Uherské Hradiště. The consecration of the foundation stone was performed by dean Josef Vykydal from Velehrad on June 21, 1886, in the presence of representatives of the municipality and the Liechtenstein estate, which paid almost half of the construction budget. Three days later, the demolition of the old building was completed and 220,000 cleaned old bricks were prepared for the start of construction. Imports and manual work were done by local citizens for free and with an unusual willingness, professional work was done by craftsmen from Kunovice or the immediate vicinity. The work went very well, and the favorable weather that prevailed that year contributed to the rapid construction.
On August 28, 1887, the solemn consecration of the school took place. The ceremony was attended by the district governor Václav Kramerius, the council of the regional court Leopold Preis, clergymen and teachers from a wide area, members of the municipal council, the local school board and many other guests.
Modifications to the school's surroundings continued the following year, on the occasion of the 40th jubilee of the reign of Emperor Francis Joseph I. On this occasion, at the suggestion of school administrator Vincenc Anderschöck  the municipal council decided that a plum alley should be planted around the school, so that a fund for the support of poor pupils would be established from the future yield of plums (burning and selling plums).
