Emperor FJI memorial stone

Mníšek (German: Einsiedel in Isergebirge) is a village and municipality in the north of the Czech Republic, in the Liberec district, in the Liberec region. It lies about 6 km north-northwest of Liberec at the foot of the Jizera Mountains.

There was a German physical education association (Deutscher Turnverein) in Mníšek, similar to the Czech Sokol in the interior. It was founded on April 8, 1888. Its later functionaries included Hugo
Riedel, nar. 16. 2. 1888 v Rumburku. Byl synem Franze Riedla, majitele obchodu s vlnou v čísle 241 před nádražím. Byl i dědicem otcova podniku a vystavěl si moderní přepychový dům čp. 6.
Soon after the First World War, the management of the physical education association thought about a dignified celebration of the 40th anniversary of its existence, in such a way that it would be connected with a permanent memorial. They came up with the idea of using the existing torso of the commemorative stone in the village, erected for the 60th anniversary of the reign of Emperor Franz Joseph I, which was originally unveiled in 1908. And the decision was made. For the 40th anniversary of the German Physical Education Association, this stone will be used and will serve as a Flag memorial stone with a relief. It will be erected on the plot of land donated by association official Hugo Riedel from his garden near house No. 6. The ceremonial unveiling took place on August 26, 1928. The plaque with the relief was made by Josef Pfeifer from Jablonec n. Nisou. The relief was destroyed after the political coup. The stone still stands today at the bend in the road from the elementary school to the ČD railway station, on the left side of the road in front of the building of the former kindergarten, now owned by the Czech Englishman Ing. Ram.

From the "First Czech chronicle of the municipalities of Mníšek and Fojtka" Mgr. Ladislav Ulrych in October 2005 for the Patron association was drawn by: Hynek Farský

In the Mníšecké zpravodaží No. 3, May-June 2008, the mayor thanks the commemorative plaque:
Donation from the company JESĚDSKÝ BRONZ According to the proposal of the Mníšek Municipal Council, the head of the company Ještědský Bronz, Mr. Vencálek, made a commemorative plaque for the granite boulder at the bend by the road to the station free of charge. With the help of Mr. Vladimír Bukovinski, he installed it recently. Anonymity is finally over and citizens and passers-by will be informed about the reason and meaning of the memorial stone.
